What an awesome day, a great church! Memorable moment; after being shooed from the pastry tent with, "Band only, I'm serious." a mighty rushing wind blew tent over and sent pastries flying. Must admit being tempted to collect a grassy pastry during latter part of preaching.
Happy Birthday to all of my Branch Family! My association with the Branch began about 4 years ago. At the time I was an "NPC TL BA DO" or a non-practicing Catholic turned Lutheran born again drop out. My friend and co-worker, Ed, handed me a CD of Pastor Derek teaching in March of 2004. Ed had been attending the Branch with his wife, Teresa, for weeks but I had stopped going to my Lutheran church completely for at least a year. I listened to the CD mostly because I was sure Ed would quiz me about it. Ed knew I was in a deep depression but he didn't realize at the time that I was planning my own suicide. I think the sermon was about 50 minutes to an hour or so. By Lutheran standards that was very long. When Derek got to the end of the sermon I was hungry for more. I couldn't hardly believe that it was over already. The first chance I got I wrote an email to Derek explaining that although he did not know me I felt like I knew him all of my life. I knew in my heart I found a home, a new family. I listened to a few more CDs before I finally started attending in April of that year. I have found love, acceptance, hope and the power of grace in never ending fullness.
